It’s not surprising that CEO Update turned to NAIFA CEO Dr. Susan Waters and Assistant Vice President of Political Affairs Magenta Ishak for ideas on how associations can hold successful grassroots events.
A key tip for association fly-ins: "Mortal sin number one with congressional offices is booking more than one appointment with them per day," said Ishak.
It's also important to take members of Congress messages that they can relate to their constituents at home.
“We think 2013 is going to be a very critical year for us, with tax reform at the top of our list,” Dr. Waters told the magazine. “Our members are carrying to Congress the message that they serve Middle America. They are Middle America.”
NAIFA’s April 8-9 Congressional Conference is another large grassroots fly-in. The repeated visits to Capitol Hill will keep issues vital to NAIFA members and consumers, such as the importance of preserving the current tax treatment of life insurance, fresh in the minds of legislators.
